Help Me, Brother

Yesterday, after living a life filled with angels and demons & beauty and heartbreak, my older brother, Tom, died. He basked in the loving and sun-filled connection of family and friends, but those joys also rode shotgun with his other lifelong shadow companions — addiction and depression. I wrote this poem a month ago. It was the last thing I shared with him on this earthly plane.

Alone, I Practice
My Brother’s Eulogy.
Only, He’s Not Yet Dead.

What Does that Say about Him?
What Does that Say about Me?

Two Tortured Souls–
One Twisting Ever Tighter,
The Other Struggling to Untwist.

Which am I?
Help Me, Brother.
